Local Como

Mississippi Fred McDowell gravesite: This world-renowned blues artist was a native of Como, personal mentor of Bonnie Raitt, and a major influence on some of today's biggest recording stars, including Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. He is buried in the Cemetary, directions…

The Como Gin: A tribute to the declining art of agricultural science, this gin features the latest, state-of-the-art ginning and baling technology within a decades-old building. Many gins around the Southeast and Southwest have closed in recent years, but the Como Gin survives. It is fully operational, often 24-hours a day, during the peak of cotton harvest season between late September and late November.

Emily Pointer Public Library: Surprising large for such a small town, the public library is a source of pride for the community. A lovely garden and courtyard to the north of the building invites visitors to sit and relax. This tiny park is accented with tiles made by members of the community.

Historic Drive & Walking Tour

Many of Como's historic landmarks date back to the late 19th century. A number of these buildings were designed by famed architect Andrew Johnson. Some of these structures are noted for their architecture or for their age while others are of interest because of their former, famous residents.
